DX6i Menu Button MOD

<previous page>

This was my personal solution to the broken button problem. After some time the button lost almost total use, pressing it worked maybe 1/20 times and changing planes was the least of the problems, as you may imagine. So knowing the button was broken, and having no desire to be without my TX for 2 weeks, I though about just adding a button myself. Here is what I used and sort of how I did it.

You’ll need:
* 1/16″ allen (hex wrench)
* #1 Phillips
* Drill with bit for button hole.
* Wire (WH24-00-25) (here) or similar size wire. +heat shrink
* Button (30-040) (here) or any Momentary button you feel like using.

PLEASE READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS FIRST, THEN PROCEED TO WORK.

1.) Remove the 6 case screws on back of radio.
2.) Slowly remove radio’s back (there are wires attached).
3.) Remove 2 screws holding thumb wheel circuit board
4.) Remove circuit board, be careful when unplugging it not to stretch the wires. You do not have to remove it completely, but it makes the soldering easier.
4.) Solder two wires to the button and be sure that the solder does not bridge the gap, heat shrink each wire at the button end.
5.) Solder the other two wires to the button points on the back of the circuit board.
6.) CHECK TO MAKE SURE THE BUTTON WORKS! (OMG what a headache if you close it back up and have to start over!)
7.) use the nut that secures the button in place to find a suitable drill bit (my be a good idea to use a slightly larger bit but not too large.
8.) Drill a hole for the button in the clear area to the right, above or below where the circuit board is, make sure that the button will be clear when circuit board is back in place.
9.) Install the button onto the controller and secure with nut on the front of the radio.
10.) Secure the circuit board and back of radio.
