I just realized that I have been using a calculator I put together in a spreadsheet and thought some scratch builders might find it useful. I don’t think it has any errors embedded but any feedback welcome. I so often reach for the calculator; so I have tried to put together a one-stop shop, it’s a mix of imperial and metric with a strong bias towards inches and loading per square foot. I am sure there many more sophisticated spreadsheets out there and it could easily be changed to all metric.
The lookup lists are on the same page; so don’t trash the outlying areas or the calculator will fall apart.
It indicates when you exceed your selected foam thickness (helps before you load up the CNC or start cutting templates!), it also indicates when the root tip ratio is getting critical or the AR a bit low.
It allows you to enter a target loading and AUW and then play about with the wing dimensions until it all balances out.
It outputs Reynolds numbers for use in Profili this is linked to the average wing chord for your design and the estimated cruising speed you enter in MPH.
I have another sheet in which I have linked the cruising speed to loading and other design elements (foil, fuz, no-fuz, frontal-area etc) but its just too unfriendly for general use.
Tony.
